The question of the ovicidal effect of pickle Raphanus sapivus, young radish, on ascarid eggs was studied.
The pickled young radish wa made by the Korean standard pickling method and the tap water and physiological saline were used as controls. The ascarid eggs obtained from school children by repeat concentration technique were put into the pickled. The survival and embryonic development of the eggs were examined under a microscope.
The survival rate for ascarid eggs in pickled Raphanus sapivus droppe from 98.4 to 93.6 percent 20 days after pickling. The rate wa 88.3 per cent even 30 days after pickling. The embryonic development of ascarid eggs in the pickled was delayed as compared with those in controls.
It was found that the survival rates in the pickled show no statistically significant difference, and the embryonic devclopment is similar to those in tap water and saline controls.
